This project was all about translating the soul of Joana Pestana’s Firmamento collection into a visual narrative that felt celestial, raw, and emotionally honest. The jewellery embraces imperfection—highlighting the beauty in what’s fragile, irregular, and unexpected. That philosophy shaped every part of the creative direction and photography.
The challenge was to evoke the vastness of the universe without relying on artificial effects or post-production. We needed the imagery to feel natural and grounded, in tune with the organic shapes and textures of the pieces. After developing moodboards and exploring concepts, we landed on a beach in Matosinhos—intentionally avoiding the sea and focusing on dark rock formations under a wide sky to suggest a lunar atmosphere.
We used prisms, mirrors, and shallow water to reflect light in ways that mimicked stars and galaxies—creating layered dimensions directly in-camera. The result is a series that feels both cosmic and intimate, capturing the tension between softness and power that defines the collection.
